FIELD MEMO
A focused, site-based assessment that documents existing conditions and reveals how a landscape is functioning.
The Field Memo is an independent reading of the land—grounded in direct observation of soil, water movement, vegetation, exposure, and use. It surfaces patterns, constraints, and opportunities that are often overlooked, establishing a clear baseline for any future work.
WHAT WE COVER
Ground conditions: soil composition, moisture, drainage patterns
Water movement and erosion risk
Vegetation communities and ecological signals
Light, exposure, and seasonal variation
Signs of use, wear, and informal circulation
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
Concise written Field Memo (2–5 pages)
Annotated site observations and key findings
Photographs documenting conditions
Clear identification of constraints and opportunities
WHO THIS IS FOR
Properties where conditions are unclear or problematic
Sites experiencing drainage, wear, or environmental pressures
Early-stage projects before design decisions are made
Institutions seeking grounded understanding of the land
FORMAT
Site visit + written memo (delivered in 3–5 days)
FEES
$650 – $1,250 depending on site size and complexity
strategy SESSION
A working conversation to interpret findings, test ideas, and define next steps.
This builds directly on the Field Memo. Together, we translate site conditions into decisions—prioritizing interventions, exploring options, and pressure-testing ideas in real time. Live sketching and diagramming help make direction visible and actionable.
WHAT WE COVER
Spatial layout and use: circulation, gathering, edges
Ground conditions: water movement, soil behavior, exposure
Material and planting direction
Phasing and budget strategy
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
Everything included in the Field Memo
90-minute strategy session (virtual or on-site)
Real-time sketching and decision guidance
Clear next steps and priorities
WHO THIS IS FOR
Property owners ready to act, but needing clarity
Projects where phasing and budget alignment matter
Situations where multiple directions are possible
FEES
$1,300 – $1,800
concept plaN
A spatial study exploring how the property can be organized, accessed, and used over time.
The Concept Plan translates site understanding into a clear spatial framework. It defines structure—where things go, how movement works, and how the landscape can evolve in phases. This is not detailed design, but a strong, guiding plan.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
Site plan drawings exploring layout and use
Spatial organization (circulation, gathering, edges)
High-level material and planting direction
Phasing strategy
WHO THIS IS FOR
Properties undergoing meaningful change
Clients needing a clear plan before construction
Projects that will be implemented over time
FEES
$2,400 – $3,800+
full design (select projects)
Detailed development for projects requiring continuity, precision, and high site sensitivity.
Full Design builds on the Concept Plan, carrying the work through detailed resolution—materials, grading, planting, and coordination with construction.
Engaged selectively for projects where depth and continuity are essential.
FEES
Project-based
